There are many books over the years that i have enjoyed. I would like to list just a few here that have recently inspired me to continue with my dream.
I would have to admit that reading the Harry Potter novels were obviously a big step in the creation of 'Pausing Apocalypse', even if the original idea had been rolling around in my head for a few years before.
I must say that the Young Adult genre has got within it some of the greatest writing of any book on the shelves today.

`Dark and unsettling . . . Abbott's ability to reconnect with the secrecy, feverish intensity and unearned worldliness of adolescence is uncanny. Not a whodunit, but a sensitive, unconventional tale about the infinitely complex mystery of sexual awakening that lingers in the mind long after the book is finished.' --Guardian This is a book that i didn't want to stop reading and wished would never end. One of the few books that i hated to turn the last page of. |
This book is amazing - what else can i say?
In schools they are forced to read many books that will mean nothing to the children reading them. I think this book, with it's racialist themes, should be essential reading in every school. it is profound and emotional and definitely a book i wish i had written. It also holds the title of the first book ever to make me cry at the ending, (and i was on a bus at the time). To be able to move a reader - whether to tears of joy or sadness - is the holy grail of any writer. Ultimately, i can not recommend reading this book enough. With a subject matter as potentially depressing as a 16 year old girl dying of cancer, this is told in such an uplifting way that it never becomes overly sentimental. I defy anyone not to be moved by this story. 'A novel that won't fail to touch those who read it...will make you happy to be alive' |
